Donny’s Polk County Story

20+ Years in the Trade — Every One of Them in Polk County

Donny was born and raised in South Lakeland — Lakeland High and George Jenkins High. First job in the trade at 18, first Class A CDL at 21 in 2007. That’s 19 years running heavy equipment and hauling material across Central Florida. He knows the local trade market cold: the disposal-facility routings, the material suppliers, the neighborhoods, and the seasonal patterns.

Twenty-plus years across construction and removal — sub-contract crews for national franchises, independent removal for local GCs, demolition support for remodels, foreclosure and REO preservation, and new-construction site prep. That breadth is what shaped the Polk Services scope: the full range of what a local property owner actually needs, not a narrow franchise menu.

Why Polk Services Exists

Three Models in This Business — We Run the Middle One

Franchise chains price for national overhead and rotate hourly crews. Hand-crew operators are cheaper but capped by equipment. Polk Services runs the model in between — owner-operated, with professional-grade equipment.

Model 1

The Franchise Chain

A national brand licenses local operators who hire hourly crews, dispatched through a call center and priced for national overhead. The person running your job often has no accountability beyond the shift.

Model 2

The Hand Crew

A small operator with a truck and a couple of hired hands. Faster and cheaper, but limited by equipment — no demolition, no efficient load compaction, no reach behind standard backyard gates.

Model 3 · Polk Services

The Middle Model

Owner-operated with professional-grade equipment — the Kubota SCL1000, a full-size Cat skid steer, a 7×16 dump trailer, and four dumpsters. Same accountability as a hand crew, capability of a mid-size demolition contractor, priced for the work Polk County actually needs.

The Polk Services Standard

Four Concrete Commitments on Every Job

01

Walk Every Job With the Homeowner

Every job ends with an in-person walk-through. You see the completed work, confirm the scope was met, and sign off before we drive away. No leaving-and-hoping, no next-day punch-list calls.

02

Rake-Clean the Work Area

Loose debris, small material, sawdust, and residual clutter get picked up. The property leaves ready for its next use — landscape refresh, new construction, or an open yard.

03

Text 30 Minutes Before Arrival

Every scheduled arrival includes a 30-minute-ahead text with the ETA. No four-hour windows, no sitting home wondering when the truck is coming.

04

Verbal + Texted Written Quote

Every job is priced twice — verbally on-site and again in writing by text before work starts. No surprise charges, no day-of scope changes unless you approve them in writing first.

The Team

Who’s on the Job — Donny, Richard & the Family Coming In

Polk Services runs lean by design — a small team, high accountability, and no sub-contracted crews rotating in and out on customer jobs.

Owner & Operator

The point of contact on every job — writes every quote, walks every property, runs every machine, and signs off on every walk-through. 20-plus years in construction and removal; 19 years CDL Class A.

The Next Generation

Office & Coordination

Donny’s son and daughter are joining the business in office coordination, invoicing, and customer communication. Polk Services is a family business built to stay one for the long term.

The Equipment Fleet

The Equipment That Makes Residential Work Actually Work

Professional-grade machines sized for residential jobs — not oversized commercial equipment that ruts lawns and needs fence removal to reach the backyard.

Kubota SCL1000 Mini Skid Steer

The residential-access anchor. A 36-inch operating width fits through a standard backyard gate, 4 psi ground pressure spares the lawn, and 1,000-plus lb capacity handles brush, junk, hot tubs, and sheds.

The full-size Caterpillar skid steer used by Polk Services for heavier work.

Full-Size Caterpillar Skid Steer

The heavy-work backbone — handles larger material moving, grading jobs, and open-lot work where the SCL1000 would be undersized. Two machines cover tight-access backyard to open-property earthworks.

The Polk Services 7x16 dump trailer used to haul debris to disposal.

7×16 Dump Trailer

The haul-out backbone. Loaded by the skid steers and hauled to the correct disposal facility by material type. One trailer covers most single-day jobs; multiple trailers for larger cleanups.

12-Cu-Yd Roll-Off Dumpsters

Four dumpsters for customer self-load work — estate cleanouts, renovation debris, and multi-week property projects. Delivered to your property, picked up when you say.

Post-Hurricane Milton Commitment

Storm Work at the Same Rate Card — No Surge Pricing

Hurricane Milton damaged residential and commercial properties across Polk County in 2024. Polk Services worked steadily through the recovery — post-storm debris removal, light-duty tree removal, fence-damage cleanup, and flood-corrective grading on newly-identified drainage problems.

Post-storm work runs at the same rate card as any other week. No surge pricing. Insurance-claim customers get itemized invoices ready for submission. If the storm caused it, Polk Services will assess the damage.

Polk County Community Roots

A 20-Mile Radius from Downtown Lakeland

No travel fees inside the radius. Outside it, Polk Services doesn’t take work — focusing on the 20-mile core keeps response times fast, disposal routing efficient, and Donny accountable to a specific service area.

Honest Scope

What Polk Services Does Not Do

Scope discipline is intentional. When Polk Services isn’t the right company, customers get an honest referral to the right specialist instead of being sold the work.

Exterior painting — no longer offered (Polk Services previously ran painting and ended that scope).

Pressure washing — routed to specialty pressure-washing contractors.

Hardscape & paver installation — routed to hardscape contractors.

Interior renovation — drywall, flooring, and finish carpentry go to remodeling contractors.

Hurricane shutter install/removal — routed to hurricane-protection specialists.

Hazardous tree removal — trees on structures, near power lines, or needing a crane go to a full-service arborist.

Full pool jackhammer demolition — a different equipment class; Polk Services runs residential in-ground pool demolition with proper permits and partners.
