Pre-Flooring Install, Water Damage, or Pre-Listing Refresh
Pre-Flooring Install
The most common call. You’re installing new hardwood, tile, LVP, or laminate, and the new install crew needs the carpet, padding, and tack strips out first. Polk Services performs the removal on a timeline that fits the install schedule — usually the day before install or the morning of.
Water Damage or Post-Flood
Water-damaged carpet — from a plumbing leak, roof leak, HVAC condensation, or storm flooding — has to come out to prevent mold. Post-Hurricane Milton produced flood-damaged carpet work across the county. Waterlogged carpet weighs far more than dry and is handled with appropriate PPE, at the same rate card during storm response.
Pre-Listing Refresh
Agents preparing a listing often want old, worn, or dated carpet removed so the sub-floor can be replaced with new flooring before listing photos and open house. Polk Services runs pre-listing carpet removal within 24 to 72 hours of the accepted quote when the schedule allows.

Text photos with the install date if known
Text is the fastest way to a carpet removal quote — send pictures of each room, close-ups of the carpet condition, and access shots. If you already have a flooring installation date scheduled, share it so the removal schedule matches.
Free estimate — photo quote or walk-through
Photo quotes are usually accurate for standard residential carpet removal. On-site walk-throughs help with water-damaged situations, multi-level homes, and pre-1980 properties where sub-floor concerns may need flagging.
Verbal + texted written quote — complete scope
Every removal is priced twice. The written quote confirms the complete scope — carpet, padding, tack strips, debris haul, disposal — so there’s no partial-scope surprise. Multi-room bundle pricing shown as line items when applicable.
Scheduling — coordinated with the install crew
For customers with a flooring install date, carpet removal completes before the install crew arrives — usually the day before or the morning of install day. For standalone removals, standard scheduling runs 24 to 72 hours from the accepted quote.
Removal — carpet, padding, tack strips & sweep
The workflow strips complete layers in sequence: carpet cut and rolled, padding removed, tack strips pried from the perimeter, staples pulled or swept from the sub-floor. Water-damaged carpet gets appropriate PPE handling.
Broom-clean the sub-floor & walk-through
The last step is a broom sweep of the exposed sub-floor — loose staples pulled, tack strip fragments picked up, and the floor left ready for the flooring crew. A walk-through with you confirms the site looks right for the follow-on install.
Pricing, Complete Scope & Bundles
Standard Minimums
$150 minimum for a single standard residential room — bedroom, living room, dining room, or similar-scale space. Larger rooms (great room, master bedroom, oversized living space) are priced above the minimum, quoted upfront. Multi-room and whole-house removal gets bundle pricing that drops the per-room cost.
Complete Scope in the Quote
The written quote covers carpet, padding, tack strips, staple removal, debris haul, and disposal — all in one all-inclusive number. Not a partial-scope quote that leaves tack strips nailed to the perimeter after the crew leaves, which is exactly why customers coordinate with Polk Services over a cheap-per-room removal that makes extra work for the installer.
Install Coordination
Pre-install coordination is a regular workflow — share your flooring installation date and the removal is timed to complete before the install crew arrives, usually the previous afternoon or the same-day morning, so there’s no dead time between removal and installation.
Bundle Pricing
Combining carpet removal with furniture removal, household junk removal, an estate cleanout, or a garage cleanout brings the total below what separate pickups would charge.
Payment Terms
Cash, check, credit/debit, Venmo, Zelle, and Cash App (3.7% fee on card/electronic; cash and check free). Standard pickups run payment on completion.

Seven Details That Separate a Polk Services Carpet Removal
Complete-Layer Removal Sequence
Carpet cut and rolled first, padding peeled second, tack strips pried third, staples pulled or swept fourth. Skipping any layer creates work for the flooring crew and can push their timeline back.
Waterlogged Carpet — Why PPE Matters
Wet carpet weighs 5–10× its dry weight and can carry mold, biological contamination, and odors. Polk Services handles it with appropriate PPE (gloves, respirators when needed) and routes to appropriate disposal.
Pre-1980 Asbestos & Lead Flagging
Pre-1978 homes can have lead paint; pre-1980 can have asbestos in floor tile, adhesive, and pipe wrap. Polk Services checks sub-floor conditions at the walk-through; suspect material stops removal for abatement referral.
Tack-Strip Removal Without Sub-Floor Damage
Perimeter tack strips are nailed into the sub-floor; an angled pry lifts the nails cleanly rather than tearing chunks out. A damaged sub-floor creates work for the install crew and can add to installation cost.
Staple Removal or Sweep — Installer’s Choice
Padding is held by hundreds of staples; some installers want them pulled, some swept flat. Polk Services asks the customer’s install crew their preference so the sub-floor arrives ready for their specific workflow.
Multi-Room Sequencing — Furthest First
Multi-room removal sequences from the furthest room toward the exit, so loose carpet, padding, and staple debris don’t track through cleared rooms. Wrong order doubles the sub-floor sweep time.
Timing With the Flooring Install Crew
Install crews usually start early. Polk Services runs pre-install removal the afternoon before or same-day morning, so the sub-floor is ready with no dead time between removal and installation.
