The Site Work Situations We Handle

These jobs all start with the same need. The ground has to be moved or shaped before the real project can begin.

01

Site prep for a build, shed, or addition

A new shed, garage, addition, or structure needs a level, compacted pad first. Donny excavates and grades the pad so the build starts on solid, even ground.

02

Drainage and standing-water problems

Yards that hold water after every rain need the ground reshaped and, sometimes, a trench cut to move the water. Polk Services grades the low spots and cuts drainage so the water goes where it should.

03

Leveling a lot or clearing old material

Rutted, uneven, or overgrown lots need cutting down, leveling, and clearing of old roots, stumps, or buried debris. Donny digs it out and grades the lot flat and usable.

What It Costs

Pricing for Excavation and Site Work

Every excavation job is quoted per project because the dig depth, the volume of material moved, and the site conditions all change the scope. Donny quotes the whole job as a single number before the first cut.

Standard minimums

  • Quoted per project after an on-site walk.
  • Skid-steer work can also be arranged at the standalone rate, a $300 minimum for the first one to two hours, then $100 per hour.
  • Hauling off spoil and bringing in fill are quoted as part of the job.

What affects the price

  • The depth and volume of material to be moved
  • Site access for the skid steers and trailer
  • Whether spoil must be hauled off or fill brought in
  • Ground conditions such as roots, buried debris, or wet areas

Payment

Cash, check, credit and debit card, Venmo, Zelle, and CashApp are all accepted. A 3.7% processing fee applies to card and electronic payments. Cash and check have no fee. Free estimates on every job.

Why Polk Services

Why the Right-Sized Machine Wins on Site Work

Tight access the big machines cannot reach

The 36-inch Kubota SCL1000 fits through a standard gate and works in tight backyards, and its tracks put only about 4 pounds per square inch on the ground, so it does the job with far less damage to the surrounding yard than a heavy machine.

From fine grading to heavy digging

Pairing the mini skid steer with the full-size Caterpillar means Donny can do precise grading and drainage work as well as the heavier digging and hauling, matching the machine to the task.

Honest about scope

Donny handles skid-steer site work and grading and says plainly what is beyond it. Deep utility digs and large earthmoving go to the right contractor or the right rented equipment, so you are never sold a job the machine cannot do.

Donny is on every job

The owner walks the site, quotes the dig, and runs the machine. One point of contact from the estimate to the finish grade.

Local Conditions

What Excavation Faces in Lakeland and Across Polk County

Central Florida ground and weather shape nearly every site-work job here.

01

Sandy, shifting soil

Much of Polk County sits on sandy soil that moves and settles. Pads and sites have to be excavated and compacted properly, or the ground shifts under whatever gets built on it.

02

Flat lots and drainage trouble

Central Florida is flat, and flat lots do not shed water on their own. A lot of site work here is about cutting grade and drainage so rainwater moves away from the house and the yard instead of pooling.

03

Heavy rain and wet ground

The summer rainy season saturates the ground and drives constant demand for drainage cuts, low-spot fill, and regrading. Standing water is one of the most common problems Polk County property owners call about.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

What kind of excavation do you do?
Skid-steer site work, pad and footprint excavation, trenching for drainage, lot leveling, dig-out of old material, and grading. It is residential and small-commercial site work, handled with the Kubota and the full-size Caterpillar.
Do you do deep utility or septic excavation?
No. Deep utility digs, septic and sewer line work, and large-scale earthmoving are out of scope and should go to a licensed underground-utility contractor. Donny will point you in the right direction if that is what the job needs.
Can your machine get into my backyard?
Usually, yes. The Kubota SCL1000 is 36 inches wide, so it fits through a standard gate and works in tight backyards where a full-size machine cannot go, with minimal damage to the yard.
Do you call in the dig?
Yes. Before any ground is broken, Donny confirms Sunshine 811 utility locating is complete so nothing underground gets hit.
Can you fix a yard that holds water?
Often, yes. Regarding the low spots and cutting drainage, it is one of the most common jobs here. Donny walks the site to see where the water goes and shapes the ground to move it away.
What area do you serve?
A 20-mile radius from Lakeland, including Plant City, Winter Haven, Bartow, Auburndale, Mulberry, and Lithia, with no travel fee inside that area.
